Kale Crop at Poukawa

Updated: Mar 1, 2019

Images of Kale crop at Poukawa

This crop was sown in September of 2018 by direct drill. It struggled a little in the early summer but good late rains in Decemebr/January have meant a reasonable crop. The slope is deceptive and around 15 degrees on average but in place up to 20 degrees.
Successful Kale crop at Poukawa

This crop was sown in September by direct drill. It struggled a little early on due to a drish spring but good rains in December and early January got it going. At a guess it's about a 4.5- 5.0 tonne dry matter crop at this stage with a some growing still to do. We will collect dry matter tonnage later. The slope is a bit deceptive in the photo and on average it would be above 15 degrees with some at 20 degrees. The site for establishing and recording catch crops is in the foreground.
